AWGP head misusing power, police under pressure, claims victim’s counsel
In the case of alleged rape of a minor by All World Gayatri Parivar (AWGP) head Pranav Pandya at Shantikunj in Haridwar, the counsel for the purported victim- AP Singh, who had represented the accused in the infamous Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case submitted an affidavit in the Uttarakhand high court containing serious contentions. Singh also submitted an application seeking quashing of the earlier court order staying Pandya’s arrest.
It was stated by the victim’s counsel that the accused is misusing his power. The main witness in the alleged rape case- Rajendra was murdered inside Shantikunj and the crime was presented as a suicide, Singh stated. On the other hand, the government had not provided any type of protection to either the victim and her family or the witness in this case due to which they were unable to come to the court. Seeking that the stay on Pandya’s arreste be quashed, the counsel futher sought that the case be transferred to another high court. He further contended that the Uttarakhand police is under pressure and is not being able to conduct the investigation in a proper manner.
It will be recalled that Pandya is accused of sexual assault on a minor working at his home. The family of the victim had lodged a zero FIR at a police station in Delhi. Meanwhile, Pandya has strongly refuted the allegations.
