In the 2016 murder of Gurmeet Kaur in Dehradun, the court of Additional Sessions Judge, Shankar Raj has sentenced Ashish alias Monu to life imprisonment. The convict has also been penalised Rs 75,000 out of which Rs 50,000 will be released to the husband of deceased Gurmeet.
According to information provided by prosecutor Jaya Thakur, the prosecution presented 18 witnesses in the case. On February 5, 2016 at six in the evening complainant Jagjeet’s sister Gurmeet Kaur’s throat was slit with a sharp weapon. The accused Ashish alias Monu who has now been convicted of committing murder, went to a hotel in Mussoorie where he tried to commit suicide, but was save due to the timely intervention of the hotel staff. On his statement police then recovered the weapon and the clothes he was wearing which had blood all over.
As per the orders, the convict Ashish has been found guilty under the section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and has sentenced to life imprisonment and Rs 75,000 penalty.
