A group of ascetics has started a three- day protest at Pracheen Awdhoot Mandal Ashram on Friday on three-point demand- scrapping of Article 370 of the Constitution, population control bill and strong, deterrent action against Pakistan.
The agitating ascetics said that the time has come when the Article 370 of the Constitution must be abrogated. Notably, the particular article is meant to provide a special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Swami Rupendra Prakash of Awdhoot Mandal Ashram said, “The country is now engaged in a grim fight with the demon of terrorism. “The Centre will have to take strong measures to safeguard the country. It must scrap the Article 370. Why should there be discrimination among the states of India? The special status given to a particular state is totally unjustified. Besides, strict measures to control population must be taken. The population of one community is increasing by leaps and bounds, something which might spell threat to the unity and integrity of the country,” he said.
Baba Hathyogi said that if the country is given to the religious fraternity to rule no one would dare cast an evil glance at the country. Bhartiya Janata Party youth wing district chief Harjeet Singh said that the people and his party would not give in to terrorism under any circumstances.
National president of Human Rights Protection Society Madhusudan Arya said that it is the right time for the Centre to stamp out terrorism being nourished by Pakistan when the patronizing role of the neighbouring country has been fully exposed. He also demanded immediate abrogation of the special status being enjoyed by a particular state of India. “This is discriminatory and a stumbling block to the Indianisation of the people of the state of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
