The holy city is geared up for a ‘mega event’ organised by State Programme Management Group (SPMG) of Namami Gange on behalf of National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation on the occasion of Ganga Dussehra on Wednesday. A huge gathering is expected on Namami Gange Ghat at Chandighat to witness the Bhajan Sandhya by noted playback singer Anuradha Paudwal.
A long stretch of newly built Ghat on the Neeldhara stream of the Ganga which was built recently at a cost of Rs 69.18 crore has all the amenities from drinking water, changing rooms, parking and other facilites.
The programme coordinator said that the event will start from 6 PM and will also be attended by various public representatives and politicians including ministers among others. Tribute shall be paid to the late state finance minister Prakash Pant. Anuradha Paudwal will also give message of Ganga cleanliness through her songs.
Police suggest alternate routes for visitors
Those planning to visit Badrinath and Kedarnath from NCR, Delhi and Meerut can take the route from Muzaffarnagar to Deoband- Bijnor to Kotdwar and then Srinagar. Those planning to visit Gangotri and Yamunotri can take the route from Muzaffarnagar to Deoband-Gangolihedi-Mirzapur-Vikasnagar to Yamuna Bridge and then Damta.
Those planning to visit Kedarnath and Hemkund Sahib from Punjab can take the route through Paonta Sahib to Vikasnagar to Yamuna Bridge. Those travelling to Badrinath from Punjab can take the route from Paonta Sahib to Dehradun, Bhaniyawala to Natraj Chowk in Rishikesh and then Badrinath.
