Ample opportunities in Energy sector in U’khand: Radhika Jha
Referring to the initiative towards Pine Needle based generation of electricity, Radhika Jha, secretary, Energy, Government of Uttarakhand, informed that the state has the potential of about 100 MW for generation of power through pine needles. “However, to channelise this potential, the state government has come up with a Policy for Pine Needle Based power generation, a unique initiative towards power generation through green energy. Tenders for setting up of about 5 MW plants have already been floated,” she said and added that this would attract investment to the tune of Rs 50 crore. “Development of Power Plants or Briquetting & Bio-Oil Units will be entitled for benefits of MSME policy and subsidy as per MNRE policy as notified from time to times,” she said. She further said that implementation of such power plants would have multi-edged benefits. “It will help in reducing chronic problem of forest fire and creation of employment opportunities to the residents of the hilly region of Uttarakhand. The project under this policy would preferably be allocated to the NGOs, co-operative societies or registered industrial units based on the lowest tariff quoted by the prospective bidders,” she said.
As an another far-sighted move of Uttarakhand government towards Solar Power Generation dovetailing with local-employment generation for hilly region, e-Tenders for 200 MW Solar Power Plants have been floated, envisaging investment of Rs 900 crore and employment opportunities for round 500 people, she further said.
