The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board on Monday cancelled the annual pilgrimage to the cave shrine of Amarnath in the wake of prevailing Covid-19 pandemic. The yatra was scheduled to begin on June 28.
Lt-Governor Manoj Sinha, who is also the chairman of the Shrine board, officially announced the decision after holding threadbare discussion with the members of the board.
The LG said, “However, all the traditional religious rituals shall be performed at the Holy Cave Shrine as per past practice.”
He directed officials to ensure devotees can virtually attend the morning and evening “aartis” (prayers) at the shrine.
