Journalist, social activist Negi sent to judicial custody

The Pauri police have arrested the editor of a weekly magazine Ashutosh Negi in connection with the case registered under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act at Pauri Kotwali on January 5 this year. The police produced the accused in the district and session court Pauri following which the court sent him to judicial custody.
Sharing details, a senior district police officer said that the case had been registered against him on the basis of the complaints filed by one Rajesh Singh Raja Koli, a resident of village Payaso in Pauri Garhwal district.
He denied the reports doing rounds in the news portals that he had been arrested in connection with the Ankita Bhandari murder case. Negi had been arrested in another case, he clarified, adding that the media, including news portals, should refrain from publishing and circulating unauthenticated and provocative news, particularly on sensitive and sub-judice cases.
