In view of increasing stray cattle on roads, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has decided to start an intensive campaign to pick up stray cattle.
For the past few weeks, the number of stray cattle has increased in many areas of the city like Sahastradhara Road, Raipur Road, Adhoiwala, Dalanwala and Balbir Road most of which are cows, bulls and calves which increase the risk of road accidents too.
These cattle also spread the roadside garbage and trash from garbage bins on the main roads in search of food. According to the municipal officials, the corporation is currently providing shelter to about 1,500 stray cattle most of which were picked during the Covid-curfew.
The officials stated that though the corporation picks up the stray cattle regularly, the MCD team will now start an intensive campaign against stray cattle. Besides this, the corporation is also working on taking action against the owners who leave cows and their progeny on the roads.
The officials also asserted that the locals can inform the corporation too if they find stray cattle on streets which can potentially pose threat to commuters and pedestrians.
