Flats would be provided to them by the Dept of women and child empowerment in association with Hans foundation.
In a unique initiative aimed at providing near home surroundings to the inmates of Nari Niketan, the Department of Women Empowerment and Child Development (DWECD). government of Uttarakhand in association with Hans foundation has selected eight inmates for a unique experience. The initiative focuses on giving a better life to these inmates. Here they would also be given training in various fields which can help them work and live independently.
Talking to The Pioneer an official from DWECD department said,“ In collaboration with Hans foundation we are making this initiative come true. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with the foundation in which the eight selected inmates will be given flats in areas near the city where they can live more freely.”
In order to give a better future to the inmates the initiative has been taken by the department. For selection of these fortunate inmates an examination was conducted. The eight selected women cleared three rounds of test after which they were selected for the programme. As per the information, the women are likely be shifted in these selected flats by the end of month. Also, four more inmates are likely get shifted in other flats next month. It is also important to mention that a house help would also be provided to each of these inmates. In their stays these women they will be given vocational training in various fields.
“We want these women to grow and be self-dependent financially. Being in Nari Niketan is no future but growing and accepting the world around them will make them a better person,” official added.
Security is also being provided by the department a women constable will check on the women regularly. “We will observe that the inmates are able to adapt to the new settings or not so we will recruit help and a women constable as well. If this will be successful then more and more inmates will be selected for the programme. The plan further is to help them till they are able to pay the rent by herself and to live without any help.”
As per the information, chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat is likely to inaugurate the initiative by the end of this month. “The work has already been started selected women have seen their new houses, from curtains to bed sheet every item has been selected by their choice. CM is likely introNotably, Nari Niketan which is situated in Kedarpuram area of Dehradun, has always remained in highlight due to wrong reasons in the past. There are nearly 115 inmates living there which is overcrowded as per the capacity.
