Five persons died and 20 others were injured in six separate road accidents in Dehradun and Haridwar districts of the State over the past 24 hours on Sunday.
At Premnagar area of Dehradun district, a woman died while her husband was injured when the bike they were on was hit by a truck in the process of overtaking the riders at Nanda Ki Chowki area around 6.30 am on Sunday. The deceased woman has been identified as Beena Devi, a native of Tyuni area while the injured man has been identified as her husband Budh Singh. Police reached the accident spot on being informed and admitted the duo to a local hospital where the woman was declared dead in the course of treatment. Police checked the CCTV footage from the area to identify the truck involved in the mishap. The police later arrested the truck driver identified as Sahaspur resident Nur Hasan.
In Sahaspur, a person died while another was injured when the bike they were on slipped at Selaqui at 4 pm on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Sandeep Chand, a native of Badkot, Uttarkashi. The injured person- Ankit Singh, a native of Purola, Uttarkashi was being treated in Doon Hospital. Both were working in a private factory at Selaqui. Body has been sent for post-mortem and family members have been informed about the same.
In another accident, 10 persons were injured when the bus they were in was hit by a truck at Misserwala, in Doiwala. Passengers were reported to be from Jammu and Kashmir and were going to Haridwar. The police reached the spot and admitted the injured in a local hospital. Three persons including bus driver have been referred to higher centre after being provided primary medical treatment.
In Haridwar, three persons died while other was injured when two bikes collided with each other on Laksar Road on Saturday. The deceased have been identified as Sachin, Rajkumar and Shukam. On reaching the accident site, the police found that two of the victims had died on the spot while one died in course of treatment at local hospital. Fourth person is being treatment at higher centre. In Haridwar, four persons were injured when a truck collided with a car at Harilok crossing, Jwalapur on Sunday. The injured persons named Ramesh, Raju, Vinod and Praveen were admitted in local private hospital while the truck driver escaped from the spot after the accident. At Pathri, two persons- Kamal and Mohit injured when an auto-rickshaw and tractor collided with each other. In Bahadrabad, two persons were injured in a collision between two mobikes.
