In latest news from Dehradun, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed the State Forest department to launch large-scale tree-plantation drive across Uttarakhand to mark the Harela Festival slated on July 16. He said that stress should be laid on planting fruit-bearing and medicinal plants. He also pitched for water conservation and revival of water bodies like ponds and lakes fast drying up. He asked the forest department officials to dig ponds to conserve water. CM reviewed the short-term, medium-term and long-term developmental roadmaps presented by the forest department and public works department (PWD) at a meeting held at the Secretariat.   He asked the forest department officials to speed up works now being carried out under Compensatory Afforestation Fund and Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA). He asked the PWD officers to see to it that fruit-bearing trees are planted on both sides of the roads.
