The boatmen providing their services on the Naini lake for tourists and locals are required to keep their license with them.
Further, those who go boating also have to wear life jackets, failing which a fine will be charged. However, the regulations are not observed strictly by all.
On Monday, a team of the municipal council conducted a surprise checking drive. During the surprise check, the officials found two boatmen without license. The two were penalised by the municipal team. Later, cleaning was also undertaken at both the boat stands.
Earlier, on Saturday, the municipal council team had conducted a surprise inspection during which one boatman was found to be operating without a license.
On Monday, the municipal tax inspector Anupama Bhatt along with her team first visited the Naina Devi temple boat stand and then the stand near the Boat House club.
At the Naina Devi boat stand, the team found two boatmen- Jagdish Singh and Vijay Arya who were doing business without a license. The municipal team imposed a penalty of Rs 250 each on the two boatmen for operating without a license. The surprise inspection conducted by the municipal team caused some anxiety among the boatmen. After the check, cleaning at both the boat stands was also undertaken.
The municipal tax inspector Anupama Bhatt told the boatmen that keeping the Naini lake was a collective responsibility of all the citizens. Collective effort is necessary to keep the Naini lake free of garbage, she stressed.
Himanshu Tamta, Dharmesh Prasad, Deep Raj and Govind Rawat among other municipal staff members were present during the surprise inspection and cleaning work undertaken on Monday.
