OVER 16 METRIC TONNES OF GARBAGE RECOVERED FROM FRI AFTER YOGA
Friday, 22 June 2018 | PNS | Dehradun–
Soon after the mega Yoga show ended at FRI where over 50,000 people performed asanas with the Prime Minister, the staffers of municipal corporation of Dehradun plunged into cleaning operation as a huge heap of garbage was found strewn around the campus. The municipal commissioner Vijay Kumar Jogdande said that it would take them at least two days to clean the campus of the garbage. He, further, said that the civic body staffers have collected around 16 metric tonnes of garbage on the first day after the mega Yoga event was held. “More is there clearing which we would take at least two days,” he added.
Jogdande, further informed that around 100 dustbins were set up in the venue by MCD. Along with this, three plastic waste collection vehicles are regularly operating in the venue for collecting garbage, he said, adding that 30 employees were deployed at the place before the mega event started.
He stated that 80 daily wage sweepers and around 12 tractor trolleys were deployed for collecting garbage as well as the plastic waste from the venue. “As things stand now, the sanitation drive will continue for two more days,” he said.
He further said, “We have successfully cleaned around 16 metric ton waste from the venue which will go for treatment. Our duty did not end with the event being over. Around 80 daily wage sweepers were deployed there aside from the regular staffers at the venue to clean the waste heap. We would complete the cleaning operation at the earliest as 12 tractor trolleys are working to collect garbage, including the plastic waste.”
Quizzed over the attitude of the Yoga enthusiasts vis a vis cleanliness, he said that many of them used the dustbins to dump the plastic water bottles. “However, we found many strewn around the place.
They are being collected by our staffers. It is very sad that some of the people have not cared to keep the place clean. Besides, not a single staff member or volunteer from FRI came to help the MCD team to clean up the venue,” he said.
