For the first time, the All India Kisan Mela of the GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology will be held in the virtual mode. The 108th Kisan Mela will be organised by the university from October 13 to 16. However, considering governmental regulations in place to check the spread of the Covid-19 contagion, the university has decided to hold this event virtually. This decision was taken at a meeting of the Kisan Mela advisory committee presided over by the university’s vice chancellor Tej Pratap recently.
The vice chancellor informed that in view of the Covid-19 pandemic and considering the regulations of the Government of India, the Kisan Mela will be held in the virtual mode this time. The sale of high yielding seeds, plants and other products will be sold on the basis of online registrations by farmers in advance. The process of online registration has already been started. The vice chancellor further informed that after registering online, the farmers can receive the seeds, plants and other products from the university after September 15. For registration, the farmers can also contact the university by phone, message or in person and demand the products available and the quantity according to their requirements. The events held every year during the Kisan Mela like the special lectures, discussions with farmers and felicitations will be held on the online platform during this year’s Kisan Mela. Information about various techniques and research work will be provided through video to the attendees. Pratap further informed that interested farmers can also register at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in the area to procure the seeds as per their requirement.
All programmes of the Kisan Mela will be available for viewing through the virtual mode at the Krishi Vigyan Kendras. The timings of the Kisan Mela will be from 10 AM to 5 PM daily. Farmers interested in registering or seeking information should phone at 05944-234810, he added.
